How Freelancers Can Back Up Invoice and Client Records
Local-first software gives you control of your business data, but it also means a backup habit matters. A simple, regular backup is safer than waiting until a computer is lost, replaced, or wiped.
Back up before you need it
Create an export after meaningful changes and keep a copy somewhere separate from your everyday computer. A backup on the same device is useful for accidental changes, but it will not help if the device is damaged, lost, or unavailable.
Choose a backup location and retention approach that matches your privacy needs. If you use third-party storage, understand that provider's privacy and security practices.
Know what your business records include
For a freelancer, useful records often include clients, projects, invoices, time entries, expenses, mileage, receipts, and exported reports. A backup strategy should cover the records you would need to continue working or answer a client question after changing computers.
Use BillDesk backup and restore deliberately
BillDesk lets you export its local data and restore a verified BillDesk backup later. Restore should be treated carefully because it replaces the current application data; make a fresh backup before restoring an older copy.
The app also supports CSV exports for reports when you need a portable table of recorded information.
